Saturday is market day in nearby Saumur so it is with empty
shopping bags and high expectations we are en route. We are not disappointed as
we peruse the stalls groaning with fresh victuals for this evening’s repast. It
kills me to have to promenader past the vendors of cheesy comestibles as our
fridge is already ¾ full of fermented curd(la belle fromage de France).
We manage to put together a meagre selection for tonight’s diner including le trois douzaine de huitres. Lunch is in the town square including a fine dish of trotters de cochon.
Then it is by our trusty voiture back to our habitation.
Thanks to youtube I learn to shuck the recalcitrant bi-valves,
much enjoyed by
¾ of us.Then a delicious fougasse(a puff pastry log stuffed with goat cheese, Emmenthal, ham and potato-tres delicieux!
We take a post-prandial stroll along the banks of the Loire.
