Being in France makes me very Abbey

Today we visit the Abbey of Fontevraud which is a 10 metre walk from our front door. This place has a rather chequered history involving various hermits, royalty, lepers and eventually becoming a prison, the French version of Oz!. The displays are also somewhat bizarre with ancient stuff rubbing shoulders with post-modern stuff. It turned out to be quite a fun experience.

Bumble bee for Oliver
Lunch back at the digs with further attempts at trying to keep our cholesterol levels astronomical.
Then we drive to Saumur and visit the mushroom museum, which really kept us in the dark.
Slug for Peter

Naughty mushroom

A wander around downtown Saumur where I fall again into the rookie error of ordering coffee but find a delightful cheese shop.

Then it is off to our Michelin starred dinner at La Gambetta, enjoyed by all.
A very amusing bouche

Mullet with cardamom ice-cream

Foie gras with crab and stuff

A whole variety of stuff

  1. Oliver loves the bee (the pink flower more so!), the slug for Peter couldn't be more appropriate!
